Ever looked at your to-do list and realize it has gotten out of control? Realized that somewhere along the way you bit off more than you could chew and are spread too thin? Or, maybe, if your like I used to be, you come up with great ideas that you start working on and never finish. Sound familiar?
How can you track your projects easily and effectively?
A couple of years ago, on the recommendation of my business coach, I started using a Do/Doing/Done board. What’s that? It’s pretty simple. Take a white board or even section off parts of a wall and use post-it notes. You should have a Do section, Doing section, and Done section. From there it becomes super easy. Write down the projects you need to do, the ones you are working on, and then, once your finished, move them to the Done section.
A couple of rules apply. First of all, the Do section is for serious projects only. You can make a second board for the “someday” ideas. More importantly, you should not have more than two items in the Doing section at once.
So, here’s the downside of the board. It can’t be shared with team members or taken with you when you’re out. Enter Trello. Trello is a digital Do/Doing/Done board. You can assign tasks to other people, which is great if you have an assistant or team. Also, there’s an app for that so you can take it with you anywhere. Now, even my wife and I use Trello to keep track of things like restaurants we want to try or projects around the house. It is a really useful app. See if it works in your business plan.
